What does paranova stand for?
Composed of “paradigm” (= template, pattern of thought, or worldview) and “nova” (= new), “paranova” stands for a new perspective in thinking about society. Every person has an individual history shaped by distinct experiences and emotions connected to it – an individual perspective influencing his or her thinking. We are convinced that, although we assign ourselves to different social groups, we are unquestionably connected in a societal system and that it is a desirable goal to treat each other the way we want to be treated ourselves. Only together can we find solutions to our common problems.
What are our goals?
Speaking very broadly: reducing prejudices and encouraging more self-responsibility.
We observe that many people are led by clichés or fall back on “hearsay-knowledge” without ever getting into actual contact with the things they discuss. There is a tendency to take one’s own thinking as absolute and truthful, which often prevents a truly open culture of discussion. Such thinking, however, gets put into perspective when encountering a plurality of opinions and ideas. Therefore, we want to provide a platform for honest exchange and critical thinking.
How do we achieve this?
This is exactly what we have to ask ourselves over and over again! Paranova wants to
function as a “Think-Tank” and as a practice-oriented initiative alike – combining scientific thinking with practical application. Our general approach: making perspectives available and creating touch-points. We want to counter obstacles often present in political or public and media discourse by our own engagement. Ultimately, sharing one’s own perspective is the first step to achieve integration with diverging standpoints.
Who are we and what about you?
We are a group of enthusiastic students from different disciplines and universities looking for committed people who can identify themselves with the idea of the initiative. In the long run, we aim at the expansion beyond the academic sphere and into the broader of society. This does not hinder us to be inclusive for all members of society straight from the beginning. Therefore, your educational or occupational status do not matter at all.
